Getting Vermillion County Court Records
Start with Indiana MyCase to locate a public case and its CCS. For an official file, call the Vermillion Circuit Court Clerk at 765-492-5350, visit 255 South Main Street in Newport, or write to PO Box 10, Newport, IN 47966-0010. Normal hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, with a noon to 1 p.m. closure. State the court, case number, document title, date range, delivery method, and whether a plain or certified copy is wanted. The county public-records form is a further written route. No general docket email was found.
- Locate the case in MyCase and note its exact court and case number.
- Name the document and date range rather than asking for every record about a person.
- Choose the clerk counter, telephone, mail, MyCase, or county written-request route.
- Confirm access and the current copy or certification charge.
- Receive the approved plain or certified copies through the agreed delivery method.
Vermillion Clerk Copy Counter
Circuit Court Clerk Tami Corado Lowry maintains the official file for Vermillion Circuit Court, the county's only court of record. MyCase is a locator, not the certified source. A requester should bring the case number and identify the exact judgment, order, pleading, transcript, or CCS sought. Staff can say whether the record is public and what copy options exist, though they cannot give legal advice.

Vermillion Court Record Types
The official file may contain complaints, petitions, answers, affidavits, service returns, motions, exhibits, notices, proposed orders, signed orders, judgments, sentencing papers, payment ledgers, transcripts, and audio. The CCS is the dated event index. It does not guarantee that each document image is open online. Public, party, and attorney access can differ. Traffic citations routed to Clinton City Court remain with that issuing court rather than automatically moving to the Circuit Clerk.
- Case headers and Chronological Case Summaries
- Complaints, petitions, answers, motions, and notices
- Signed orders, judgments, and disposition records
- Public criminal, civil, probate, and family-file material
- Transcripts, audio, exhibits, and payment ledgers when available
Specific Vermillion Record Requests
The county public-records form cites IC 5-14-3-3(a)(2) and asks the requester to choose an office, describe the record, give contact information, sign, and submit. It warns that vague requests may not be answerable and that copy charges can be due first. A sound court-file request states the court, case number, document title, relevant date, and plain or certified preference.
The general county form and the clerk's court-file function are related but not identical. Direct a known Circuit Court document request to the clerk. Use the county form for an administrative county record or when the relevant office needs to be selected. No published docket-request email or fixed response deadline was found, so ask about delivery time when submitting.
The image below comes from Indiana's electronic citation system page.

Electronic citation transfer helps populate court systems, but it is not a public file-request portal.
Inside a Vermillion County Court Record
Read the header first, then the CCS in order, and then any available document. An event date, filing date, and entry date can differ. A reset changes a setting; it does not dismiss the case. A docket line can name an order even when the public user cannot open the text. Ask the clerk whether that item is restricted, not scanned, archived, or available only at the counter.
| Case Number | A local identifier such as 83C01-YYYYMM-TYPE-######. |
|---|---|
| Pleadings | Petitions, complaints, motions, answers, and responses. |
| Orders & Judgments | Signed rulings and the court's final or interim decisions. |
| CCS | The sequential event record required for Indiana trial cases. |
| Exhibits | Filed evidence or attachments, subject to access and retention rules. |
When Vermillion Orders Stay Offline
A CCS entry can mention an order without displaying its text. That does not prove the order is sealed or missing. The image may not have been scanned, the record may predate conversion, public online access may differ from counter access, or a rule may exclude it. Ask the clerk about the named entry and date.
Party and attorney access can expose more documents than anonymous public access, but neither defeats a seal. Court reporter notes, recordings, and transcripts also follow separate rules and request steps. The 2024 state report lists one Vermillion court reporter, which is a staffing statistic rather than proof about any particular transcript.
Juvenile confidentiality is one key limit. The following image is sourced from the Indiana juvenile-record statute.

Current access rules and the clerk's response control whether a requested juvenile item is public.
Fees and Certified Copies
A plain copy reproduces a public document. A certified copy adds the clerk's formal certification. Vermillion's published 2021 schedule lists $1 per page and $3 for certification. Confirm the current amount because fees can change. No current official search fee, online per-document fee, or exemplification fee was located.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Plain copy | $1 per page on the published 2021 schedule |
| Certification | $3 on the published 2021 schedule |
| Search fee | No current official amount located |
| Exemplified copy | No official local amount located |

Vermillion Evidence Retention
Local Rule 6 separates retention from access. Civil evidence is generally retained for four months after decision and longer after an appeal. Listed lower-level criminal evidence may be retained for three years. Serious felony and murder categories can carry twenty-year periods, subject to post-conviction exceptions. These periods do not promise an online image or public release.
Ask about the precise exhibit, case, and disposition date. An item can be retained yet confidential, physical, or subject to a release process. Older court material may also require a courthouse search because MyCase warns that not every historical record or image is online.
Some case-related payments route through the Circuit Clerk. The image below is from the Vermillion Probation Department.

The department requires a case number for phone payment questions, reinforcing the value of locating the right court record first.
Sealed Records and Public Access
Indiana's Access to Public Records Act and the Supreme Court's Rules on Access to Court Records start from public access but exclude protected material. Juvenile, adoption, mental-health, sealed, expunged, and some domestic-relations information may be hidden. Personal identifiers and protected-person details are limited. The access rules changed in 2026, so current rule text controls.
Key Rules:
Indiana Code 5-14-3 supplies the state's general public-record framework.
Rules on Access to Court Records 4 and 5 address access and excluded or confidential court records.
Rule 10 supports the state-maintained excluded-record list.
Vermillion Records Beyond MyCase
MyCase and the CCS are only the first layer. Indiana ePay is a participating payment tool, not a full certified file. The official Indiana ePay page is shown below.

Use a payment result to identify an account, then request the court record from the court that owns it.
Traffic guidance also routes users to the issuing county or court. The image below is tied to the Indiana State Police traffic-ticket guidance.

State Police does not receive the payment. Clinton City Court handles Vermillion traffic tickets when the citation directs there.
A driver-agency record is distinct from the court file. The image below comes from the Indiana BMV Driver Safety Program page.

That agency page does not replace the judgment, citation, or CCS maintained by the court.
